Project Overview

In July 2016, Guildford Cathedral was successful in its second application to the Government's First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund, a partnership between ChurchCare, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Catholic Church.

Following the completion of the People's Cathedral Project, work has now started on this new initiative.

Specifically, the project will concentrate on continuing work to ensure the Cathedral is watertight and will focus on reroofing the Quire and Presbytery and repointing and grouting the South Aisle wall.

These are the areas of the Cathedral which are currently most at risk from water penetration.

Coupled with this, we need to repair internal plaster affected by damp penetration and remove the remaining asbestos residue in roof voids, to allow access.

The work will be completed by Christmas 2017.
