Clergy & Staff at Guildford Cathedral

The Precentor is responsible for the Music and Liturgy of the Cathedral. 

Nicholas is a Trustee of the Music Development Foundation, a Member of  the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England, the Diocesan Advisory Committee, the Diocesan Worship Committee and a Consultant to English Heritage.

Whilst a Residentiary Canon playing a full part in the life of the Cathedral, Andrew’s field of ministry is focused on the University of Surrey, which shares Stag Hill with the Cathedral.

As part of a team of chaplains, Andrew is involved in pastoral care of students and staff, in playing an active part in building and promoting an understanding of faith and between faiths and fostering good relationships in the wider life of the University community.

Andrew comes to Guildford with a background of parish ministry in London and Basingstoke. A Benedictine Oblate of Alton Abbey, he is currently pursuing doctoral studies at King’s College, London.

Canon Gittoes shares liturgical duties with her colleagues, and has particular responsibilities in the areas of education and pastoral care.

Canon Gittoes is a graduate of Durham and Cambridge universities. She trained for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge and served as an assistant curate at Hampton Hill in the Diocese of London. From 2006 until Easter 2012 she was Vicar of All Saints, Hampton. Dr Gittoes writes and lectures on theology, and has been closely involved with the training of clergy.

As well as being a Residentiary Canon, Stuart is the Archdeacon of Surrey and therefore provides a link with the parishes and the administration of the Diocese of Guildford. 

As well as supporting the parishes and clergy of the diocese, Stuart also relates to Hospital and Army Chaplains and is Warden of the St Peter’s Community which runs St Columba’s House in Woking.

Prior to his appointment as Archdeacon in 2005, Stuart was Sub-Dean of Coventry Cathedral. He served as a parish priest in Coventry Diocese for fourteen years and for part of that time was DDO and Head of the Vocations and Training Department. He also served in Nottinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

Nancy Ford is Guildford Cathedral's Priest Vicar and takes her part in leading and assisting at services both on Sundays and weekdays.

Nancy was Chaplain to the Bishop of Guildford from 2005 to 2010.
