Star Gazing Evening

Star Gazing Evening: Saturday 20 January, 6-9pm

Join us at Guildford Cathedral as part of our Epiphany celebrations to explore the night sky.  This family friendly event is your chance to meet local enthusiasts from the Guildford Astronomical Society who will share their expert knowledge.  You'll be able to look through a wide range of telescopes to explore the night sky and try a spot of star gazing from our vantage point on Stag Hill (weather permitting).  We are delighted to be able to welcome Professor Roger Davies, Professor of Astrophysics, University of Oxford to deliver a free astronomical talk.   Free children's activities will be on offer, the newly refurbished Cathedral will be able to be explored in a different light, our shop and restaurant will be open.

A full timetable for the evening will be published at a later date.

All are welcome to attend this sparkling evening!  We suggest a donation of £2 per person to help cover costs, please be generous and help us avoid charging for similar events in the future.  Nearby parking is available at the University of Surrey.

Safety notice: It is anticipated that this event will be very busy.  Please be aware there will be reduced lighting at the Cathedral and a large number of pedestrians on the access paths.  All visitors to the Cathedral site are advised to take extra care when traversing the site.  Children remain the responsibility of their parents/guardians at all times.  Parking spaces are limited at the Cathedral and parking restrictions will apply.  We strongly recommend that you park away from the Cathedral and walk.  We are grateful to the University of Surrey who have made their car park available for visitors to this event.  Limited disabled parking will be available, for those unable to walk a drop off area will be provided.

In the event of cloud cover the "pop up observatory" will not be operational, however, all other activities will go ahead as planned.  Up to date weather information will be provided on our website - so do check before setting out!
