News: Summer Celebration at the Cathedral: Saturday 8 July

Saturday 8 July, 11am - 3.30pm

A fun packed activity day to celebrate the approaching completion of the major improvement works at Guildford Cathedral.  Come and see how the building has been transformed and how this was achieved.  With free family crafting fun, free face painting, free kite making workshop and live music from the Royal Military School of Music. Discover new specialist trails and tours for all ages, treasure hunts and other activities. 

The new Cathedral interpretation room will be open with special exhibitions tracing the story of The People’s Cathedral.  There will be displays from local groups and organisations including Guildford Astronomical Society, the Mother's Union, the Broiderers, the Archivists and the Bell Ringers.  Free admission to art exhibitions displays work by our two Artists in Residence.

Sign up on the day for unique free tunnel tours giving you the opportunity to explore underneath the length of the Nave.  No pushchairs are allowed on this trail and all children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18 years.  Maximum group sizes apply so arrive early to avoid disappointment.  Tunnel tours take place at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm.

12:45   Talk in the Chapter House. Meet David Beadman, our Steeple Keeper, to find out more about the art of bell ringing

13.30    Talk in the Chapter House.  Architect to the Cathedral, John Bailey, describes the highlights of The People’s Cathedral Project

There will be a celebratory peal of bells from the tower in the morning, with the opportunity to take a pre-bookable tower tour (only £6 per person over the age of 8 years only, limited availability, conditions apply) in the afternoon at 2pm and 3.15pm. 

Free admission to this celebratory event, do bring a picnic to enjoy in our wonderful grounds with amazing views over the town! 

STOP PRESS: clear skies permitting, visitors will be able to enjoy Solar Observing, courtesy of special telescopes provided by members of the Guildford Astronomical Society

Cathedral, shop and refectory open daily throughout the year, all welcome.  

This event is part of the Guildford Summer Festival.  All are welcome.
