News: Tower Tours

New Cathedral Tower Tours

Regular Tower Tours, led by a small team of dedicated volunteers, will be available to book every Saturday afternoon from 5th August.

Visitors will be able to climb the 249 steps of the Cathedral Tower, visit the bell ringing chamber and be rewarded with the best view in Surrey. Tours are bookable via the Cathedral box office and cost £6. Visitors must be over 8 years old.

In addition to the Tower Tours, the free Summer Celebration on 8 July will be a hive of activity with face painting, a kite making workshop, treasure hunts and other crafts for children. There will also be unique tunnel tours under the Nave of the Cathedral, taster guided tours, exhibitions, displays, and talks in the Chapter House. Visitors will enjoy music from the Royal Military School of Music who will be playing throughout the day. The event brings together a number of organisations and individuals who have supported the Cathedral during the project, including the Guildford Astronomical Society, whose enthusiastic members will be providing “Solar Observing” with special telescopes, weather permitting.

Guildford Cathedral is currently nearing the end of an extensive refurbishment project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, to remove asbestos acoustic plaster, install step free access and make other essential improvements. The newly transformed Cathedral, together with a new exhibition room and visitor enhancements are just some of the things to see and do.

Guildford Cathedral is open every day and looks forward to welcoming visitors of all ages to take part in a wide range of events and services.
