News: CATHEDRAL CLOSED - MONDAY 1 DECEMBER 2008
Last updated 1/12/08 at 13:00
A serious incident occurred outside Guildford Cathedral yesterday afternoon (Sunday 30 November) in which a man was shot by police. The Cathedral, the offices and the Refectory are currently closed.
We can confirm that Cathedral personnel were not involved or hurt and while this was something that happened outside the Cathedral it was not in any way connected with the community here. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those caught up in this tragedy, as well as with those living in the Cathedral Close and adjoining estate.
The Parkside School Carol Service which was due to be held at 7pm today has been cancelled. The Cathedral's Advent Procession which was due to be held last night will instead be held on Sunday 7 December at 6.30pm.
The Cathedral will reopen on Tuesday 2 December; all services and events will continue as published from this point onwards, including the Age Concern Carol Service at 2pm.
