News: SingUp Funding

Guildford Cathedral in partnership with Lanesborough School is delighted to have been awarded funding from Sing Up, the National Singing Programme, to provide Chorister Outreach to local primary schools.

The partnership, in conjunction with Surrey Arts, the local Music Service, aims to promote singing in primary schools and to support and develop the skills of new and existing singing leaders and teachers. A separate part of the Chorister Outreach will be to form a choir of primary aged children that meets once a week after school. Following tuition, the children will be given the chance to perform a Concert in Guildford Cathedral.

The government grant funding of £29,895 was awarded at the end of August and the programme of school visits is underway. All primary school pupils in Years 3-6 will receive information on the children's choir that hopes to begin meeting in January. Both Lanesborough and the Cathedral are delighted to be part of this nationwide initiative and excited about the developing programme of music-making in the community.
