ANNOUNCEMENT

Appointment of Sub Organist - September 2009

We are delighted to announce the appointment of a successor to David Davies as Sub Organist of Guildford Cathedral.

He is Paul Provost, who is currently Assistant Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College.

Mr Provost was educated at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester.  He was Sydney Nicholson Organ Scholar at Manchester Cathedral (2001-3) before becoming Organ Scholar of St John's College, Cambridge, where he worked with David Hill for three years.  His duties included training the probationer choristers and taking charge of the world-famous chapel choir in Mr Hill's absence, as well as playing the organ for broadcasts, recordings and concerts.  In 2007, Mr Provost was appointed Assistant Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College, where his work includes training the Quiristers, classroom teaching and organ tuition.

Paul Provost is married to Ruth, who is a professional singer.

The Cathedral community looks forward to welcoming Paul and Ruth in September.  They will be living in the Sub Organist's house at 7 Cathedral Close.
