News: Snow on Stag Hill

Sunday 8 February 2009 - Today's services all go ahead as normal. The approach road is now drivable with care, but there is still a fair amount of snow and ice in the car parks. This is the last update to this news item (until the next time we experience similar conditions!).

Saturday 7 February 2009 - The approach road, the road round the green and the car parks are still covered in icy snow. Conditions are no better than yesterday so we advise extreme caution if you try to drive up to the Cathedral. The Book Shop and Gift Shop are both closed today and tomorrow. The Refectory is open today but not tomorrow. The Sunday Services at 8am, 9.45am & 6.30pm will go ahead. However, we advise extreme caution and patience if you drive, and if you drive or walk, you will definitely need stout boots! Please stay at home if you are at all worried and we'll see you again once conditions have improved.

Friday 6 February 2009 - The car parks are still covered in slushy snow, it is possible to drive up the single track in the centre of the approach road, but only one car at a time. The Office, Book Shop, Gift Shop and Refectory are open. Evensong will be said in the Lady Chapel, and as you can see below the Box Hill School 50th Anniversary Service has been postponed.

Thursday 5 February 2009 - The approach road is even worse this morning (the webmaster had to abandon her car half way up the hill!). Choral Evensong will be replaced by said Evensong in the Lady Chapel at 5.30pm today and tomorrow (Friday). The Refectory is open. The Box Hill School 50th Anniversary Service on Friday 6 February has been postponed.

Wednesday 4 February 2009 - Same again today, the approach road and car park are still far too dangerous to negotiate. The Service of Thanksgiving for John Brown on Thursday 5 February has been postponed - a new date will be published soon. The Book Shop and Gift Shop remain closed.

Tuesday 3 February 2009 - The approach road to the Cathedral is sheet ice and far too dangerous to negotiate today. Evensong will again be said (instead of sung) in the Lady Chapel at 5.30pm.

Monday 2 February 2009 - The Cathedral and its grounds are currently covered with over a foot of snow. Mattins and Holy Communion were said as usual this morning, but the Cathedral is being closed to visitors this afternoon. Evensong will be said (instead of sung) in the Lady Chapel at 5.30pm today.
