News: Golden Jubilee Ball

Guildford Cathedral is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. The new Cathedral was consecrated in the presence of HM The Queen on 17 May 1961 and to celebrate the Cathedral has planned a number of exciting events including the Golden Jubilee Ball that took place on Friday 6^th May 2011.

285 guests attended the event and were greeted by The Dean of Guildford The Very Revd Victor Stock and the Cathedral’s Event Director Caroline Simcox. The ball was planned and executed by the Events Department of Guildford Cathedral and the evening began with reception drinks in the Narthex and Nave.

The three course dinner was served and the atmosphere changed as the lights towering the Cathedral walls and archways changed for each course.

After the main course and before the dessert was served our guests were surprised by an invitation outside to watch a spectacular musical firework display provided by Flashpoint Fireworks.

As the evening continued a silent auction took place at the dinner tables with the use of a specialised bidding app on iPad’s. The auction lots were provided to the Cathedral by Celebre Art and the iPad technology was provided by Bidtech – Guildford Cathedral at the forefront of technology!
