Golden Jubilee Events
Guildford Cathedral is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year.
The new Cathedral was consecrated in the presence of HM The Queen on 17 May 1961 and we have planned a varied and exciting programme of events to mark the anniversary.

- Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 January: Bricks in the Wall - drama workshops for schools in partnership with Scene Change (click here for write-up & photos)
- Sunday 13 February at 18:30: 'O Praise ye the Lord!' a service of hymns and popular anthems to launch a year of celebration
- Faith in the Public Arena - a series of lectures on Fridays at 20:00
4 March: Faith in the Community by Bishop John Gladwin
11 March: Faith in Education by Archbishop Vincent Nichols
18 March: Faith in the Arts by Sir Mark Jones
25 March: Faith in Prisons by Dame Anne Owers
1 April: Faith in Politics by the Rt Hon Frank Field MP - Saturday 16 April at 19:30: St John Passion by J S Bach - Cathedral Choir Concert
- Friday 6 May at 19:30: Golden Jubilee Ball - a glamorous ball in the nave of Guildford Cathedral
- Saturday 14 May at 15:00: Golden Jubilee Thanksgiving Service - the diocesan family celebrates
- Tuesday 17 May at 17:30: Consecration Anniversary Eucharist with premiere of Guildford Cathedral Mass by Will Todd
- Saturday 21 May at 19:30: Choral Jubilee - five organists and a choir with premieres of 50th Anniversary choral commissions
- Saturday 11 June at 11:00: Jubilee Summer Fair - showcasing local charities, with fun for all the family
- Sunday 12 June at 10:30: Whitsunday - Patronal Festival Eucharist and Cathedral Community lunch
- Friday 24 to Sunday 26 June: National Gathering of the Federation of Cathedral Old Choristers' Associations
- Saturday 25 June at 13:30: Travelling on - a musical celebration of the National Society for Education involving Cathedral Choristers, Surrey Songsters and choirs from local Church of England schools
- Saturday 10 September at 10:30: Study Day - Sir Edward Maufe and the building of Guildford Cathedral
- Sunday 2 October at 15:30: Messy Cathedral - a celebration for children and their families
- Talks by the Dean - Gospel in the Gallery on Thursdays at 20:00 in the Cathedral
6 October: The British Museum
13 October: The Victoria & Albert Museum
20 October: The National Gallery
27 October: The Wallace Collection - Friday 4 November at 19:30: Golden Jubilee Youth Rave in the Nave
- Tuesday 20 December at 19:30: Golden Jubilee Christmas Concert conducted by John Rutter with Guildford Cathedral Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
