Join Us this Advent

All are welcome to join us here to journey through Advent with their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and godchildren. There is a range of events to participate in: artwork from the church schools to enjoy; services which will bring the Advent and Christmas stories alive.

We are delighted that Ecclesiastical have very generously sponsored our Families Advent Programme.

Family Fun Day

Wednesday 21 December 2022 | 10.00am – 12.30pm

Take part in a variety of self-led Christmas themed craft activities including creating crackers, baubles and Christmas Cards.  The Fun Day will also provide one of the last opportunities for children to enter our competition to design a new Cathedral tote bag to be displayed and sold in the shop in 2023!

This event is free no booking is required !

Cathedral Tots | Returns in 2023 on 4 January at 10am

Our informal service for toddlers and pre-schoolers takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at 10.00am. Each session of Cathedral Tots includes activities, a faith-themed story or Bible story, a prayer, songs, and craft. Children collect an individual activity pack including refreshments, and there is plenty of opportunity for fellowship as children take part in the craft activities. Cathedral Tots is a free activity, with a welcoming and relaxed community of parents/carers and young children. There is currently no requirement to book places for these services. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Schools Artwork (28 November – 2 February)
Throughout advent, we will be displaying the artwork of local schools around the theme of ‘Prince of Peace’. With the imagination of children and the guidance of teachers, the artwork is sure to be something special. Come and have a look!

Advent Activities (weekly, starting 28 November)
Each week through advent, we will put out an activity that links with the Christmas story in preparation for Christmas. The activities will be in the baptistry and freely available for all children who come up.

Christingle, Sunday 4 December, 3.30pm
This year we are holding our Christingle service in Season’s Café on Sunday 4th December. All are welcome for songs, stories and, of course, Christingles. All age and informal, we would love to see you there.

Family Fun Day Wednesday 21 December, 10am-12.30pm

A morning of self-led Christmas themed activities. Join us to finish off your Christmas preparations by creating a Christmas cracker, making a Christmas bauble, designing a pop-up Christmas card, and using stickers to make and retell the Christmas Story. This event is free and no booking is required; there are a certain number of resources available so we will be managing each activity for each child to do once. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Journey to Bethlehem, Saturday 24 December, 4pm

This family service will take place at the Cathedral on Christmas Eve at 4pm. The interactive service tells the story of the very first Christmas with live-action characters, readings and carols with music provided by the Cathedral Choristers and the Stag Hill Phil. Children (and adults!) are invited to come dressed as an angel or shepherd if they would like to be involved in the story-telling, though we do also have some spare costumes. No booking is required to attend the service; children must be accompanied by an adult.

Come and Join Us and be part of this wonderful time of year!  We look forward to seeing you.
