All composers and performers will be women. Living composers, Cecilia McDowall and Dominique Le Gendre, will be present to introduce their work.

The event includes a performance from a choir of survivors of human trafficking called Amies Freedom Choir. There will be a string orchestra of young women from London Music Colleges arranged by our friend Suzanne at Godalming Conservatoire Concerts.

The central work, Everyday Wonders "The Girl from Aleppo" could not be more pertinent. The original copy for this work’s release with Convivium Records could not be more relevant today. The concert will recognise pain, grief and confusion but ultimately the belief that good art, joyous singing and good people seem to survive and certainly leave a wonderful legacy.

"Wherever one looks, innocent children are caught up in conflict. During these last years alone, thousands and thousands of child refugees have trekked from Syria to Turkey and on into Europe in search of asylum." Cecilia McDowall and Kevin Crossley Holland

The cantata will be sung by the girl choristers of Guildford Cathedral Choir, conducted by Katherine Dienes-Williams with a searing and beautiful violin solo performed by Hennessey Brown Music violinist Harriet Mackenzie You may remember her from an earlier concert in our series with Peter Donohoe.

The concert will open with the wonderful Amies Freedom Choir singing around the piano. They are all survivors of human trafficking and their children will be looked after by nannies provided by Pan Intercultural Arts during on the Cathedral site as they are nearly all single mothers having fled various extraordinary situations.
