We are sorry to be closed

With heavy hearts we have taken the difficult decision to close the cathedral building to visitors and members of the congregations. The rate of Covid-19 infection in Surrey is alarmingly high. We have been told by our Government and by Public Health England that we should all stay home except for essential journeys. We believe that in remaining open to visitors and members of the congregation we may, inadvertently, be communicating an ‘invitation’ to leave home. The Cathedral clergy, musicians and virgers will be in the building working in Covid-secure ways within strict risk assessments. Morning Prayer and Holy Communion take place Tuesday to Friday and are broadcast live. At 9.45am on Sundays we will broadcast our Cathedral Eucharist. You can download an Order of Service and join us from your sofa or armchair. We hope to be able to broadcast Choral Evensong twice a week. Please check back for up to date information. Links to the live stream for services can be found from the diary entry for that particular day or if you are watching later via the Home Worship page.

We are all disappointed that we have had to take this decision, and with the support of Chapter, we believe that this is the right thing to do in the current circumstances.

When the lockdown is over … Guildford Cathedral has so much to offer the visitor. As well as an inspiring and peaceful building the Cathedral offers a whole range of attractions from guided tours to enjoying a cup of tea and a cake with friends.

The Cathedral extends a warm welcome to visitors of all ages all year round, from the start of morning services to the end of Evensong each day.

Donations to the Cathedral from visitors are welcomed as these help towards our maintenance and running costs (we receive no regular state funding).

Your support is needed now, more than ever. Thank you to all our generous donors and benefactors. If you’d like to contribute to the future of the work here please donate on-line, or by using this QR code. UK taxpayers can increase the value of their gift by signing a Gift Aid Declaration. Details on our website.  During this difficult period we are especially dependent on the donations from our on-line worshippers. Thank you for your generosity.

There is a small fee for group visits.
