His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh

10 June 1921 — 9 April 2021

The Dean and the Chapter and the entire cathedral community extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and her family following the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. We assure her of our prayers for her and her family in their time of grief and our prayers of thanksgiving for the long life of service Prince Philip gave to our nation and to the Commonwealth. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

An online Book of Condolence has been set up at Guildford Cathedral for any members of the community who would like to add their name in thanksgiving for the life of Prince Philip and the lasting contribution he has made to the life of our nation and the Commonwealth.

Welcome to Guildford Cathedral. Come and explore the last Anglican Cathedral to be consecrated on a new site, in 1961.

What we do:

  • We welcome school children of all ages and backgrounds.
  • We are dedicated to making your visit memorable, experiential and educational.
  • We aim to provide inspiring learning experiences for all people of any age, enabling you to engage with the Cathedral and its significance in ways appropriate to you.
  • We tailor visits to meet your needs.
  • We can provide educational experiences on site on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during term-time.

Activities we offer

We offer a selection of workshops, visits and activities for pupils of all ages. Our priority is to deliver high-quality learning experiences for children in a unique and inspiring environment.

We have aligned our Religious Education offer to the National Curriculum and Diocese approved curriculum, which means that we can support the excellent work going on in schools by providing opportunities to deepen and further pupils’ understanding of aspects of Religious Education, especially the Christian faith. This also allows us to provide assessment opportunities against the curriculum to aid teachers in fulfilling their classroom data requirements.

We can also offer workshops designed to meet any other learning objective from across the range of curriculum subjects. If you’re looking for somewhere different for your pupils to use as a learning environment, do get in touch and we will arrange a visit for you covering any topic or subject you wish to cover.

Special Educational Needs Schools and Non-UK schools are also catered for with programmes designed specifically to match your needs.

Please look at our Types of Visit page to find out more about what we can offer to your pupils.

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions page for answers to most queries teachers and organisers might have about arranging a visit. If you have any questions which are not answered there, please email schools@guildford-cathedral.org or call +44 (0)1483 547880 and speak to us, or use our Enquiry Form.
