The Dean and the Chapter and the entire cathedral community extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and her family following the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. We assure her of our prayers for her and her family in their time of grief and our prayers of thanksgiving for the long life of service Prince Philip gave to our nation and to the Commonwealth. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

An online Book of Condolence has been set up at Guildford Cathedral for any members of the community who would like to add their name in thanksgiving for the life of Prince Philip and the lasting contribution he has made to the life of our nation and the Commonwealth.

During the period of 5 November – 2 December the Cathedral is open for Individual prayer only. Please do contact the Visitor Experience Team to arrange a visit in the future. 


There’s so much to see and discover in the Cathedral. You can pre-book a tour with our knowledgeable Cathedral Guides, who’ll tell you all about our amazing story.  If you’re visiting with children, you can use our FREE family trail or explorer bags

We are a working Cathedral and occasionally Services and Events will mean that we are not open to the public. On the day of your visit, please check our website for our opening times.


Cathedral Tours

Join our knowledgeable Guides for a Guided Tour exploring The People's Cathedral, an iconic Grade II* listed building.

Tours can be booked for an individual or for groups; please telephone us on 01483 547870 or email visit@guildford-cathedral.org

Tours are charged at £4 per head, with payment in advance preferred.

Tower Tours

Visitors will be able to join our Guides and climb the 249 steps to the top of the Tower to enjoy stunning views over Surrey and the surrounding area.

Tower tours will take place on selected dates between March - October at 2.00pm and are strictly limited to 15 people per tour. As this is a working Cathedral, there are occasions when tours will not be available (if a service or event is being held); details of cancellations will be notified to any pre-booked ticket holders.

Some restrictions do apply, so please check before booking.

Tickets will be available online (or from our Shop on the day of the Tour) at £5 per person. To book go to the Tour Schedule and click on the date and time of the tour you want to book onto.

Please note that the Tower is usually used for abseils in May and June, so no Saturday Tower Tours are available during these months.

Group Visits

Group visits of any size are welcomed. Groups of 15 or over are asked to pre-book even if you do not require a guided tour, so that we can make sure the Cathedral is available. Self-guided Tours

You are welcome to explore the cathedral using our range of tour leaflets. Choose from seven options including Sculpture, Textiles and Pilgrimage.

Family Tours

For our younger visitors we have a range of “Explorer Bags” aimed at different ages, available free of charge from the Cathedral Guides Desk. Alternatively, select our Family Tour leaflet and learn about the Cathedral with Stanley the Stag.

Specialist Tours

In addition to our standard Guildford Cathedral Tour, we are also offering three new tours:-

  • Artistic Gems of Guildford Cathedral Tour £4 per head
  • The Kneelers Tour £4 per head
  • Sacred Glass Tour £4 per head
