NOTES TO EDITORS

Guildford Cathedral is the only Church of England cathedral dedicated to the Holy Spirit and the newest to be consecrated on a new site. Known for its clean lines, light-filled interior, and warm welcome, it is a prominent spiritual and cultural landmark in Surrey.

The Cathedral’s unique history is rooted in community spirit. When construction was halted by World War II, thousands of people stepped forward to “buy a brick” to ensure the building was completed. Among them was Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who signed a brick herself. This groundswell of public support earned it the enduring nickname: The People’s Cathedral

Today, Guildford Cathedral stands proudly atop Stag Hill, offering panoramic views across Surrey. It remains a beacon of faith, creativity, and community—Open to God, Open to All
