The Cathedral Forum
Under the new Cathedrals Measure, the principal governance document for all English Cathedrals, there is a requirement for us to set up two advisory bodies. One, the Cathedral Advisory Board, consists of members from our wider community who can give advice to Chapter on any subject asked of it, drawing on their wider experience. That is now up and running, and we need to turn our attention to the second.
The Cathedral Forum is intended to be a voice of and for the Cathedral community, and it will provide a vehicle for communication between Chapter and the people it serves. In practice, the Chapter very much hopes that it will be an effective way of maintaining a dialogue between the Cathedral Community and Chapter, as the strategy work unfolds and develops.
We are now looking to populate this committee, and the Nominations Committee is inviting interest from people who would like to be a part of it.
We expect that the Forum will comprise 8 – 12 people, including the Chair (who will be appointed by Chapter). Each Cathedral has set up its own Forum slightly differently, and we expect that ours, too, will evolve as it develops. In principle, though, we would expect it to meet at least termly, at a time which is most convenient to forum members.
