Welcome from the Dean

Guildford Cathedral is a warm-hearted community that is open to God, open to all.

We continue to be open for services and to visitors. Our staff and volunteers look forward to welcoming you to the Cathedral, and Seasons cafe remains open for drinks, snacks and meals. We ask our visitors to observe guidance regarding hand washing.

Lent is observed in the Cathedral with our series of Lent Reflections led by the Reverend Magdalen Smith, based on her newly published book, Grace-filled Wilderness. These will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday evenings until 31 March. The evenings will conclude with a quiet service of Compline. During Holy Week on Monday 6 and Thursday 8 April we have Night Prayer with Address held in the Lady Chapel, and on Tuesday 7 we are holding a Sedar Meal in Seasons during which we remind ourselves of the roots of our Christian faith in Judaism and the importance of our relationship with our Jewish friends. We will be re-telling the story of the liberation of the people of Israel from Egypt under the leadership of Moses, thinking about the symbolism and meaning of the Jewish Passover, and sharing a two course meal together. As well as our usual Holy Week and Easter Services, details of which are found in the Cathedral Diary, we also have Holy Week Story Time for children aged up to 11 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Our Cathedral Open Day takes place on Saturday 14 March, 11am onwards offers free Guided Tours and Tower Tours (£5). Come and see both the Cathedral’s hidden crypt and angel on top of the tower. The fourth Sunday of Lent, 22 March, is also Mothering Sunday. We hope to give all the ladies some flowers at our services on this day, and for those that want to treat their mothers, grandmothers, or just someone special to them, Seasons café are offering a Mothering Sunday lunch.

Our services are listed here and everyone is welcome to attend them. The current What's On is now available, with details of events, services and activities happening in February, March and April.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Cathedral.

The Very Reverend Dianna Gwilliams
Dean of Guildford
