Do you have unwanted foreign currency?

Then we would love to hear from you. Foreign Currency helps raise essential funds for the upkeep and work of the Cathedral.

Guildford Cathedral's Coins Scheme

The Cathedral has very resolute Volunteers who have run the Coins Scheme since 2006. The Scheme has invited donations of coins and notes, of any country and of any age, and has been successful in raising more than £27,000 of funds for the Cathedral.

With school holidays upon us, if you are looking to travel overseas you can help us by donating unused and unwanted currency in this way.

Alternatively, if you have an old tin or bottle of old coins at home that you just do not know what do with, we would be happy to have them!

What We Take

The coin scheme welcomes current, obsolete, and old coins and notes, of any country (including the UK) and of any age. In addition, coin collections have been a valuable addition to our funds.

It may be pre-decimal copper, sixpences, or threepenny bits – every coin fetches something; and some pieces have fetched as much as £250 for a single coin; £750 for a pristine obsolete note.

Now that that the world has opened for holidays, short breaks and business the flow of donations to the Scheme is increasing once more. But we could always do with more!

Donations can be left at the Cathedral Office Reception or with the Virgers in the Cathedral.

In need of Currency?

If you are thinking of travelling abroad again as things relax, contact John Mitchell via the Fundraising Team on fundraising@guildford-cathedral.org to see whether he has any currency for your destination country, available against a donation to the Cathedral.  If you have a bank account in any overseas country, do please let him know as you may be able to bank some of our stock of the currency concerned in your own account and donate the equivalent in sterling.
