News: Guildford Cathedral Statement Following the Attack on the Jewish Community in Bondi Beach

The Dean and Chapter of Guildford Cathedral express their profound shock and grief following reports of an attack on the Jewish community in Bondi Beach, Australia.

The Very Reverend Bob Cooper, Dean of Guildford, said:

“We are horrified by this violent attack and extend our deepest condolences and prayers to all those affected, their families, and the wider Jewish community both in Australia and here in Guildford.
Antisemitism in any form is an abhorrent evil that has no place in our world. This act of violence against our Jewish brothers and sisters is a stark reminder that hatred and prejudice remain deadly forces that must be confronted and condemned without hesitation.
We stand in solidarity with Jewish communities everywhere, and particularly with our Jewish neighbours here in Guildford and across Surrey. We pray for comfort for those who mourn, healing for the injured, and strength for all who fear. We pray too for an end to the poison of antisemitism and all forms of religious hatred.
The doors of Guildford Cathedral remain open to our Jewish friends and neighbours, and we reaffirm our commitment to building bridges of understanding, friendship and mutual support across our communities.”

Prayers will be offered for the Jewish community at services throughout the coming week at Guildford Cathedral.
