The Very Reverend Bob Cooper, Dean of Guildford, has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant to the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey.

It has been announced today that the Very Reverend Bob Cooper, Dean of Guildford, has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant to the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey. The appointment recognises his service to the Church of England, his leadership of the cathedral, and his commitment to the people of Surrey.

As Dean of Guildford, the Very Reverend Bob Cooper leads the Chapter of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and has pastoral and missional oversight of one of the county's most significant civic and religious institutions. The cathedral, known since its founding as the People's Cathedral, serves the Diocese of Guildford and the wider community of Surrey.
The Very Reverend Bob Cooper said:

“I am deeply humbled to have been asked to serve as a Deputy Lieutenant to the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey. It is a privilege and an honour, and one I receive with great gratitude. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to serve the people of Surrey in this way and to represent His Majesty across the county. Surrey is home to a remarkable diversity of communities, and I look forward to playing whatever part I can in the life and public service of this county.”
The role of Deputy Lieutenant is a voluntary position appointed by the Lord Lieutenant. Deputy Lieutenants assist the Lord Lieutenant in carrying out ceremonial and representational duties on behalf of His Majesty The King across the county.
