News: Celebrating a First

For the first time in the history of the Cathedral Organists’ Association, a woman has been elected to accept the post of President.

We are extremely proud that it is our very own Katherine Dienes-Williams, Organist and Master of the Choristers, that has been nominated to serve in this role. Katherine's presidency starts today.

The Association provides a forum for directors of music of cathedral and collegiate foundations in Great Britain to meet twice annually for professional development and support. The conferences take place at a broad geographical spread of the member organisations and enable members to experience the challenges and opportunities of working in various kinds of institution and to disseminate good professional practice. This week the conference has been held in Portsmouth.

The Association also encompasses retired Cathedral and Collegiate foundation organists.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 ‘This to me is one of the proudest moments of my life. Robert Sharpe handed me the minutes and attendance book of the Cathedral Organists’ Association signifying my forthcoming three-year Presidency - an affirmation by my own outstanding colleagues and the first woman in its history to be affirmed in this role. It will be an utter honour to serve. I wish my parents had lived to see this moment. Much of this I owe to them but also to the support and love of my husband and my daughter’
